AHLA Membership
Why become an AHLA member?
- We are member owned, and are the voice of Alberta’s hotel industry.
- We deliver innovative solutions that are customized to Alberta hotels.
- We reinvest the value created by our programs and services to benefit our members.
Any hotel or other lodging facility can become a member of the AHLA.
As an AHLA member, you:
- Support vital advocacy work that supports your hotel. In 2021, the efforts of the AHLA and its 700+ members brought about extensions to the abatement of the 4% Tourism Levy and to temporary layoffs for AHLA members only!
- Manage costs through commercial programs designed especially for hotels, including power, natural gas, insurance, and employee benefits.
- Access free training videos to help you train new employees and skill up current staff.
- Save money on Ascend, our annual professional development event for hotel industry leaders and investors.
- Be the first to hear about AHLA advocacy work, government updates, legislation changes, and cost-saving programs through our newsletters.
- Receive support and resources developed specifically for the Alberta hotel industry. See our COVID-19 resources for hotels.
The following member benefits are currently paused, as the AHLA is focusing its resources on helping hotels recover from COVID-19:
- Benchmark your wages and benefits, and budget for labour costs through our free Wage & Benefits Survey.
- Get an objective assessment of your HR practices through our Employer of Choice (EOC) program. Participating properties receive a comprehensive report on their HR practices and employee opinions. Those who demonstrate the highest standards of HR practices are eligible to receive the EOC designation, making it easier for your hotel to attract and retain staff.

Safety Subscribers
The Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association is the official safety association for all hotels and convention centres that are a part of the Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board Industry Code 87503. All of these businesses are subscribers to important AHLA health & safety communications and have access to health & safety training opportunities on the AHLA’s Health & Safety Training Portal.
