Why Train Employees?
Providing training to employees is an important element to successful hotel operations. It offers the chance for employees to learn new skills, enhance their knowledge, and understand more about the company. The AHLA offers several different training options for hoteliers, from safety training to operational standards training.
Health and Safety Training Through the AHLA
The Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association is the official safety association for all hotels and convention centres that are a part of the Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board Industry Code 87503. All of these businesses are considered AHLA safety subscribers and receive health & safety communications and have access to health & safety training opportunities on the AHLA’s Health & Safety Training Portal, Tourism Works!
Courses offered through TourismWorks include but are not limited to:
- Joint health and safety committee representative training
- Incident Reporting and Investigation Training
- WHMIS 2015
- Inspections – e-learning
- Violence training – e-learning
- Hotel Operations (Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Sales and Marketing)
- Financial Leadership
- Loss prevention and risk management – e-learning
- First Aid Training (Basic & Intermediate)

Virtual Education Series
The AHLA’s new virtual education series is designed to keep you informed on the pressing challenges facing hotels. Our in-house experts and trusted partners will offer potential solutions to help your hotel achieve operational excellence, while prioritizing the safety of guests and staff. Topics will touch on health and safety, risk management, loss prevention, and environmental sustainability.
