Leanne Shaw, Chair
Current position: Owner/General Manager of Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Calgary-Airport since 1999
AHLA Board Member since: 2012
Started working in hospitality industry: 1987 (restaurant); hotel industry (family business) in 1999 as a GM/Owner Operator
Other boards Leanne has served on:
- Calgary Hotel Association (2006-2012)
- Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Operator Advisory Forum (2007-2012)
- Alberta Strategic Tourism Council (2014-16)

What Leanne believes is the greatest challenge facing our industry:
Disruption — we live in a world where we never know where the next challenge is going to come from. Today, in many parts of Alberta, it is the economy and oversupply, in others it is labour shortages. Online travel agencies continue to erode our profitability and homesharing continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, with more and more commercial operators renting out whole-home units without any regulation.
Why Leanne wanted to join the AHLA Board:
I have great respect for the AHLA and the advocacy and programs and services that it provides to our members. I believe that I can bring the perspective of an owner/operator who, although part of an international hotel chain, understands what it is to be an independent operator who relies on the strength of the AHLA to provide the programs and initiatives that both promote and protect the prosperity of our industry.
Leanne is a “Beer Baron” (an original investor) at Village Brewery in Calgary!
