Thanks to the advocacy work of the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC), the federal government has extended several COVID-19 liquidity programs until October 23, 2021, including:

The maximum rate for CEWS and CERS will be set at 40% in Period 20 (August 29 to September 25), instead of being reduced to 20%, as announced in Budget 2021. A maximum rate of 20% will be applied in Period 21 (September 26 to October 23).

The AHLA will continue to support the advocacy work of HAC, who is working on a proposal to ensure continued survival funding for the hotel sector. In the meantime, the AHLA urges Alberta hotels to continue meeting with their Members of Parliament to help get these messages across.

How Can Your Business Help Get Government Support for Hotels?

  1. Send a letter to your local Member of Parliament (MP). It will take less than 1 minute to send using this template.
  2. Meet with your MP and tell them your business and employees will not survive without continued support. For our request to be heard, hundreds of hotels across Canada must meet with their elected officials and make as much noise as possible. If you need help preparing for your meeting, please contact the AHLA at and also make sure to send us an email to let us know how it went.
  3. Spread the word on social media. Pre-written social media content can be found on the Coalition of Hardest Hit’s website (click the “Download Graphics” button).

Everything you need to help guide you, including key talking points, meeting guide & tips, and other ways to get involved can be found in HAC’s Grassroots Advocacy Toolkit.
