UPDATE May 26, 2021: The government announced that the Tourism Levy has been abated until June 30, 2021.

Original article: After speaking extensively with the the Government of Alberta for the last several weeks, the AHLA has been notified that the Tourism Levy abatement will not be extended past March 31, 2021. More than 100 AHLA members contacted their MLAs, Premier Kenney, and the Minister, to let them know how critical this abatement has been to the struggling Alberta hotel industry.

“As one of the industries that have been hardest hit by the pandemic, we are disappointed in the Minister’s decision not to extend the Tourism Levy abatement,” said Dave Kaiser, AHLA President & CEO. “We will continue to communicate with the government to ensure they understand the needs of our members during the pandemic and through what will surely be a long road to recovery.”

The AHLA encourages eligible hotels to apply for the latest round of the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant, which recently re-opened to support businesses in Alberta.
