The Government of Alberta has announced a new Critical Worker Benefit, which will provide a one-time payment of $1,200 to eligible Albertans, in recognition of their hard work providing critical care and services. Currently, these funds are earmarked for workers in the health care, social services, education, and private sectors that deliver critical basic services to Albertans, or support food and medical supply chains.

The AHLA has sent a letter to the Minister of Labour and Immigration to advocate for hotel workers who have also delivered critical services to Albertans.

The government needs to hear from AHLA members about this issue. Please contact your work and home MLA to ask why hotels have not been included, and ask them to encourage the Minister of Labour to expand the criteria to include hotels. Please cc: on your email.
