The Alberta hotel industry, which had already been experiencing financial difficulties as a result of reduced activity in the oil & gas sector, has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The AHLA sent a letter to Travis Toews, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Finance, to thank the government for the measures they have already undertaken to support the hotel industry, and to encourage them to consider the following measures to further support hotels with liquor licences and VLTs:

  • Provide a credit on the liquor mark up for businesses that hold a Class A liquor licence.
  • Temporarily increase the commission paid to Video Lottery Terminal retailers to 25% retroactive to June 12, when the VLT network was reactivated.
