Celebrating International Housekeepers Week

September 2017 – International Housekeepers Week is September 10-17. The Government of Alberta and the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) appreciate all of tourism’s valuable staff, but this week we especially want to recognize our housekeeping and maintenance men and women across Alberta who ensure visitors receive the highest quality of accommodation and customer service.

“Housekeeping and maintenance teams in Alberta show extraordinary dedication to their guests’ satisfaction, and attention to detail. They are on the front lines of customer service, and ensure the delivery of outstanding visitor experiences across the province.”

– Dave Kaiser, AHLA President & CEO

Professional housekeeping staff throughout the province help represent Alberta on the international stage and play an essential role in our province’s tourism and business travel industry.  This week is a time for us to recognize and celebrate some of the unsung champions who work hard behind the scenes to ensure visitors feel welcome in Alberta. To all housekeeping personnel, thank you for your commitment to Alberta tourism and making our hospitality facilities a clean, welcoming and safe place for all travellers to enjoy.

– Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Alberta Culture and Tourism

“Alberta is known for its warm, welcoming people and outstanding hospitality. Housekeeping teams are crucial in delivering on this promise to our visitors. The hard working women and men in Alberta’s housekeeping services mean that we can offer travellers a clean, comfortable stay while they explore our beautiful province.”

– Shelley Grollmuss, VP Industry Development, Travel Alberta

“International Housekeepers Week is finally here, and we are happy to celebrate it with all our fellow housekeepers. This is to recognize our hard work and dedication to our craft. It is one of the toughest jobs in the hotel industry, and we want to thank each and every one for a job well done.”

– Angel Santos, Housekeeping Manager, Banff Aspen Lodge

“Every day our housekeeping, maintenance and laundry teams work hard to ensure our hotels are ready to receive the many guests who call us their home away from home. International Housekeepers Week gives us the opportunity to shine a light on the great work our teams do – oftentimes behind the scenes – to ensure our guests have a positive experience.”

– Leanne Shaw, General Manager, Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Calgary-Airport

For more than 30 years, the Government of Alberta, the AHLA, and Travel Alberta have recognized hotels that demonstrate the highest standards of cleanliness with the Housekeeping Award. Coveted by hotels and heart-of-house staff, the award continues to raise the standard of housekeeping in properties of all sizes throughout the province. Since 1983, more than 3,000 Housekeeping Awards have been presented.

The Housekeeping Award is unique to Alberta’s lodging industry and is the only award of its kind in Canada. The staff of this year’s acclaimed properties will be announced on November 21, 2017, and will be recognized at the AHLA’s Annual Housekeeping Awards Gala on April 16, 2018 at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
