New Strategy for Tourism in Canadian Badlands

The Canadian Badlands Tourism Development Strategy is a blueprint for the long-term development of tourism in the region. The plan builds on the region’s existing strengths with the goal of realizing the economic benefits of tourism.  This project was led by Canadian Badlands Ltd., a not-for-profit organization of 56 municipalities that directs the development of tourism across the region.

To support the work of this initiative, the Alberta government will continue its investment in the Canadian Badlands project for an additional two years at $250,000 per year. Funding for this and other tourism initiatives is based on the four-per-cent Tourism Levy. The levy provides Travel Alberta with a reliable, predictable and sustainable source of funding for marketing and development activities.

The Canadian Badlands region spans about 90,000 square kilometres in southeast Alberta, stretching from Stettler in the north to the Montana border in the south and from east of the Highway 2 to the Saskatchewan border.
