List Your Property in the Official Campground Guide

Where a property offers campsites for overnight or transient campers as a normal course of its business, it must meet the Minimum Standards for Approved Campgrounds in order to be listed in the Official Campground Guide and on www.travelalberta.com . The fee to be listed in the Official 2010 Alberta Campground Guide is $220.00 + GST. Click here to request an inspection for your campground.

If a campground does not meet the Minimum Standards, but the operator is willing to repair or address deficiencies immediately, it may be listed as provisional. If deficiencies cannot be addressed promptly, the campground will not be listed in the Official Campground Guide, or on www.travelalberta.com .

The AHLA recognizes four different types of campgrounds:

SERVICED CAMPGROUND means a parcel of land developed for camping and having the minimum of 75% of the designated lots with at least partial services. Campers shall have access to these facilities:

• Tap water, central service building(s) with flush toilets, washbasins and showers.
• Sewage disposal stations, tables, some fireplaces/stoves and firewood or like supplied (unless fires are restricted).
• Public telephone (where service is available) and caretaker on premises.

SEMI-SERVICED CAMPGROUND means a parcel of land developed for camping and having the minimum of 50% of the designated lots with at least partial services. Campers shall have access to these facilities:

• Tap water, central service building(s) with flush toilets and washbasins.
• Sewage disposal stations, tables, some fireplaces/stoves and firewood or like supplies (unless fires are restricted)
• Caretaker on premises.

BASIC CAMPGROUND means a parcel of land developed into designated lots for camping and having the minimum amenities of:

• Potable water by means of standpipe or well.
• Outside privies.
• Tables and some fireplaces/stoves, firewood or like supplies (unless fires are restricted).  

PRIMITIVE CAMPGROUND means a parcel of land developed for the random placement of recreational vehicles or tents and having the minimum amenities of:

• Potable water by means of a standpipe or well.
• Outside privies.
• Tables and some fireplaces/stoves, firewood or like supplies (unless fires are restricted).

Alternate Campgrounds Properties will be listed in the Alternate Campground section of the Official Campground Guide if they meet all of the Minimum Standards for Approved Campgrounds but do not:

• Offer overnight sites, i.e. the property may require a minimum 3 day stay, and/or
• Have at least 25% of sites available to visitors as overnight camping from June to September inclusive.

Such campgrounds may not be exclusively residential properties. Examples of properties eligible to appear in the Alternate Campground section include:

• A vacation campground/RV Park or Extended Stay Camping resort where there are minimum stay requirements, or less than 25% of sites available for overnight use, but where the rental fee or access does not include ownership or membership.
• A campground that was previously listed under the Approved Campground section that no longer qualifies based solely on the "overnight stay" or 25% rule provisions.
