AHLA

Housekeeping Awards

The Housekeeping Award program was developed in 1983 to encourage, recognize and foster excellence in housekeeping and maintenance. Any establishment participating in the Approved Accommodation program is eligible for nomination.  The Housekeeping Award winners are chosen based on the inspection results.

The Quality Assurance Advisor checks a random selection of units, normally 10% of the total or a minimum of five (5) units that are representative of the different types of accommodation available at the property. The Quality Assurance Advisor will leave a copy of the report for the Manager’s information. The report is  used for production of the Accommodation Guide and to identify properties that may qualify for a Housekeeping Award.

Housekeeping Award winners are presented with a plaque for display at their property, and are recognized in the Alberta Accommodation Guide and other travel media as a recipient of this award.

The AHLA's Human Resource Development team has numerous resources properties can use to train their staff, including the emerit Housekeeping Room Attendant Workbook. For more information, visit http://www.ahla.ca/resource/category/human-resource-development/.

The AHLA’s Quality Assurance Team has developed guidelines & checklists to help your Housekeeping department understand what our inspection team - and your guests - look for in a guest room.  You can access the Housekeeping Checklist here.
