The Housekeeping Award program was developed in 1983 to encourage, recognize, and celebrate properties that demonstrate excellence in cleanliness, state of repair, and maintenance. Any establishment participating in the Check In Canada program is eligible for nomination and the winners are then selected based on the inspection results.
The Housekeeping Awards are based on a number of criteria, including consumer reviews and the results of current or previous inspections. For the awards to be valid, the AHLA needs to see a nominated property just as guests do.
Properties nominated for the Housekeeping Award may get an unannounced inspection from a member of the AHLA's Quality Assurance team.
Properties that wish to be considered for a Housekeeping Award will be required to apply for the award based on certain criteria filters. Each and every property must submit an application to be considered for this award. However, it is the AHLA’s goal to make the new process as simple and transparent as possible.
A new Housekeeping Award logo is currently being developed. This year's award recipients will also have access to an array of materials and resources to help them promote their achievement.
